We are making interactive Extraordinary Earth CD-ROMs available to Montana
Science Teachers Association prior to Space Day. Our goal is to interest
students in science and math at an earlier age, by enhancing existing
curricula. We invite you to visit our website at
http://pcsinspace.hst.nasa.gov . This our 12th year of developing
educational material and our 7th educational CD-ROM (Extraordinary Earth,
Hubble¹s Universe, Solar System 2001, Earth Curriculum 2000, PCsinSpace I,
II and III). This would be a great addition to your educational curricula
and will have an immediate impact on your programs, especially with
shrinking educational funds. The software is freeware, and your teachers and
organizations are encouraged to make as many copies as they desire. I've
included an overview. If you would like a copy contact
boxturtlesoftwar at aol.com <mailto:boxturtlesoftwar at aol.com> and request
Extraordinary Earth. Comments and reviews are encouraged.

Thank you for your time and interest.

Tom Devlin
Creator of Extraordinary Earth

Extraordinary Earth (EE) (4th-9th grades)
EE Covers a wide range of Earth Science topics. There are almost one
thousand interactive questions, over 2,000 sound bites, and over 160
activities included in this CD-ROM.
Sunlight
Do your students have a hard time grasping sunlight? Learn about nuclear
fusion, energy release, gamma rays, collisions, visible light and the wave
theory of light.
Energy Balance
The sun drives this section. Learn about albedo, reflection, absorption,
aurora and what forces the energy balance drives on Earth.
Earth
What is your student¹s weight on another planet? How old is he in Martian
years? How long does it take to run to Pluto? Learn this and more in this
section.
Geology
Not too late to learn that the Earth is moving under your feet at this very
moment! Plus the rock cycle, plate tectonics, and more, more, more!
Atmosphere
Mr. Turtle teaches about the atmosphere and aerosols, humidity, pressure and
temperature, and layers of the atmosphere.
Oceans
Hydrology, wind driven waves, earthquake generated tsunamis, ocean currents,
salinity, fish catches, and other topics!
Water Cycle
Thought there were five parts to the water cycle? The United Nations says
there are six.
Geography (physical)
Learn about latitude and longitude, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional maps,
geographical features and more vocabulary words.

Tox Town (http://www.toxtown.nlm.nih.gov/ <http://www.toxtown.nlm.nih.gov/>
) is an interactive web site that enables students and teachers to learn
about the environmental health concerns in various neighborhoods: town,
city, U.S.- Mexico border, and farm. As an educator, I hope that you will
take the time to review this site and provide the National Library of
Medicine with your suggestions and comments so that we can continue to
improve Tox Town and present relevant information for use in the classroom.

In addition, I hope that you will help us to promote Tox Town by pointing to
Tox Town on your organization's web site, as well as mentioning Tox Town in
your relevant publications. Promotional materials and Tox Town images for
web sites and publications are listed at
http://toxtown.nlm.nih.gov/clipart.html
